Paoli, PA - May 16, 2005 - CarFit is a free educational program for senior drivers developed by the American Society on Aging in collaboration with AAA, AARP and the American Occupational Therapy Association. The new CarFit program is being piloted in 10 major metropolitan areas around the country. The Philadelphia area event will be held at Rose Tree Park in Media, PA on Thursday, May 26 from 9:30am to 12:30pm. The objective of the CarFit program is to help seniors determine how well they and their cars work together so that they can continue to drive safely and comfortably. Trained staff will offer a free, interactive consultation to seniors covering 12 topics such as how the seat and mirrors are positioned for best visibility, distance to steering wheel, gas pedal and brakes and the usability of vehicle controls. Participants will receive a copy of the completed consultation form and a package of free driving resources from the participating organizations. Exclusively at the Philadelphia area event, Wellhaven will be demonstrating several vehicle safety products that seniors will be able to try in their own cars. Wellhaven is a local senior products company headquartered in Paoli, PA and is a member of the American Society on Aging. They, along with staff from AAA, AARP and Bryn Mawr Rehab’s Driver Mobility Program will be donating their time to help seniors be more comfortable and safe in their own cars.
